The Hudson community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Gavin Edward Svien, who passed away on July 9, 2026, at the age of 16. A beloved son, nephew, cousin, coworker, teammate, and friend, Gavin touched countless lives with his kindness, enthusiasm, and infectious personality.
Born on May 28, 2010, Gavin was preparing to enter his junior year at Hudson High School. Those who knew him best remember a young man whose bright smile and cheerful sense of humor could instantly light up a room. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and his caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Gavin was a proud employee of the Hudson Rod and Gun Club, where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and became an active member of the club community. Through his work there, he learned the sport of trap shooting, formed meaningful friendships, and earned the respect of fellow members. Friends and coworkers recall his strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
Beyond his work, Gavin was passionate about sports and outdoor activities. He enjoyed competing as a member of the Hudson swim and dive team and the football team. He also loved golfing and spending time at the lake with family and friends. Whether participating in athletics, tackling a hands-on project, or enjoying a day outdoors, Gavin approached every opportunity with energy and enthusiasm.
Family members say Gavin also had a natural curiosity and enjoyed working with tools, learning how things operated, and finding ways to fix them. His generosity, warmth, and positive outlook on life made him a cherished presence in the lives of many.
Gavin was preceded in death by his grandmother, Roseann Svien; great-grandparents Mary Louise and James Svien; uncle Michael Svien; and cousin Ava Svien. He is survived by his devoted mother, Jessica Svien, along with numerous family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A celebration of Gavin’s life will be held at the Hudson Rod and Gun Club on July 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., where loved ones will gather to honor a remarkable young life gone far too soon.
